Adrien de Gerlache (1866-1934), Belgian explorer. De Gerlache commanded the Belgian Antarctic Expedition which took place from 1897 to 1899. The expedition ship was the Belgica. They crossed the Antarctic Circle on on 15 February 1898, but were then trapped in the pack ice for the next 15 months.
