Mikhail Mikhailovich Gromov (1899-1985), Soviet pilot, wearing aviation clothing for the July 1937 transpolar flight across the North Pole. Gromov was one of three pilots on this pioneering flight. They flew an ANT-25 single-engine monoplane non-stop across the Arctic, from Moscow, USSR, to San Jacinto, California, USA. The first transpolar flight had been made on 20th June 1937, but only reached Vancouver. This flight (12-14th July) broke long-distance flying records, with the flight covering 11, 500 kilometres and taking 62 hours 17 minutes.
