Gravity map of Earth C018 / 9376

Gravity map of Earth. Computer model showing the variation of the Earths gravity field centred on the Asia. Colours represent gravity anomaly. These are the differences between the theoretical value for the gravity at the surface, if the Earth was a perfectly smooth ellipsoid, and the actual measured value. They range from blue (low gravity), through green, yellow, orange and red (high gravity). This model was created from data acquired by NASAs Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE). An accurate gravity map enables scientists to better understand the Earths internal structure and may help predict climate change and natural hazards

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a gravity map of Earth, specifically focused on the Asian continent. The computer model depicted here reveals the variation in Earth's gravity field, with colors representing gravity anomalies. These anomalies indicate the differences between the theoretical value for surface gravity if our planet were a perfectly smooth ellipsoid and the actual measured value. The color spectrum ranges from blue (indicating low gravity) to green, yellow, orange, and red (representing high gravity). This detailed model was created using data acquired by NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), providing scientists with an accurate understanding of Earth's internal structure. Beyond its scientific significance, this precise gravity map holds potential implications for predicting climate change and natural hazards. By comprehending variations in gravitational forces across different regions of Asia and beyond, researchers can gain valuable insights into our planet's dynamics. With its white background highlighting every intricate detail, this print offers a visually stunning representation of Earth as seen through astrophysics and geodesy. It serves as a testament to humanity's continuous exploration of our world's mysteries while emphasizing the importance of cutting-edge technology like GRACE in advancing our knowledge about Earth’s gravitational forces.
