Elbow muscle, artwork C013 / 4580

Elbow muscle. Computer artwork of the supinator muscle (red) of the elbow and its attachments to the bones of the arm. This muscle originates from several points, including the lateral epicondyle of the humerus (upper arm bone, top) and attaches to the upper part of the radius (smaller of the two lower arm bones, lower centre). The other lower arm bone (the ulna) is at right. The cartilage of the elbow joint is shown (white), as are the ligaments, but the other muscles are not shown. The supinator muscle maintains the elbow and forearm in the supine (relaxed) position

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate details of the elbow muscle, specifically the supinator muscle. In this computer artwork, we can observe the vibrant red color that represents the supinator muscle and its attachments to the bones of the arm. The origin points of this muscle are highlighted, including the lateral epicondyle of the humerus at the top and its attachment to the upper part of the radius in lower center. The ulna, another bone in our lower arm, is also visible on one side while white cartilage representing elbow joint adds further clarity to this anatomical masterpiece. Although other muscles are not depicted here, it is evident that they play a significant role in maintaining a healthy and functional elbow joint. The supinator muscle's primary function is maintaining our forearm and elbow in a relaxed position known as "supine". This vital information helps us understand how our body functions on a deeper level. With such attention to detail and precision, this artwork serves as an invaluable resource for anyone interested in biology or anatomy. Thanks to Springer Medizin/Science Photo Library's expertise in capturing scientific imagery with utmost accuracy, we get an up-close look at this essential aspect of human anatomy. Whether you're studying medicine or simply fascinated by how our bodies work, this print offers an enlightening glimpse into one small but crucial component within our complex musculoskeletal system.
