The female structure (pistil) can be seen at centre, surrounded by the male reproductive structures (stamens, pink). Pollen grains are the male sex cells of a flowering plant. When one lands on the female pistil it sprouts a pollen tube that burrows down to reach the ovary, where it fertilises the ovum (egg cell)
