Joad stand in front of the Goose Girl Fountain in Gottingen, Germany, during their preparations for the infamous Brocken Experiment. Conducted on the night of October 31, 1920, the experiment aimed to test the theories of occultist Aleister Crowley and his belief that supernatural forces could be summoned on the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains. Price, a renowned debunker of spiritualist frauds, was skeptical of such claims and saw an opportunity to expose any potential hoaxes. He invited Joad, a respected intellectual, to join him on the expedition as an impartial observer. The pair are seen here in Gottingen, where they had stopped en route to the Brocken, likely to gather supplies or consult with local experts.
