Born on March 2, 1857, Sloggett began his military medical career in 1877, serving in various capacities in India, South Africa, and England. He rose through the ranks, becoming a major in 1903 and a lieutenant colonel in 1910. Sloggett's tenure as Director General of the Army Medical School was marked by significant advancements in military medical education and research. During his leadership, the school expanded its curriculum to include bacteriology, pathology, and pharmacology, ensuring that army medical officers were equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to care for soldiers on the battlefield. Sloggett also oversaw the establishment of the Army Medical Research Committee, which led to numerous discoveries in the fields of tropical diseases, vaccines, and surgical techniques. Sir Arthur Thomas Sloggett's dedication to military medicine extended beyond his role as Director General. He authored numerous articles and books on various medical topics, and served as the president of the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1923 to 1925.
