This handcoloured copperplate engraving, created by Andrea Bernieri for Giulio Ferrrario's "Costumes Antique and Modern of All Peoples" published in Florence in 1843, showcases three prominent Egyptian deities: Anubis, Aries, and Serapis. Anubis, depicted in the first and second images, is the jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife. His presence was crucial in the embalming process, and he was believed to guide the deceased through the underworld. In Egyptian mythology, Anubis was also considered the god of the dead, wilderness, and the desert. In the third and fourth images, we encounter Aries, the ram-headed god. Aries was the god of war, virility, and the desert. He was often depicted as a man with the horns of a ram, symbolizing strength and power.
