EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable Redwood tree house, a true marvel of the 19th century. Standing tall at 15 meters, this awe-inspiring structure was known as the General Noble Redwood Tree House and found its home on the iconic National Mall in Washington DC, USA. Crafted from hollowed sections of a 2000-year-old giant sequoia tree sourced from California, it symbolizes mankind's harmonious connection with nature. Originally erected for display at the renowned 1893 Worlds Columbian Exposition in Chicago, this architectural wonder later found its permanent residence in Washington DC in 1894 after adding a roof and windows. However, fate had other plans for this historical gem as it was sadly placed into storage in 1932 and eventually presumed lost by 1940. The artwork itself is an illustration featured in La Science Illustree, a popular French science weekly publication during that era. This particular image comes from their seventeenth volume published in 1896. The monochrome aesthetic adds to its vintage charm while capturing the essence of American culture and history. As we admire this snapshot frozen in time, we are reminded of our deep-rooted fascination with botanical wonders and our relentless pursuit to blend artistry with scientific exploration.
