Malaria control operations, 1920s
Malaria control operations. Drainage ditch being dug in the southern USA in the 1920s as part of malaria control operations. The ditch dug by the workers will drain an expanse of standing water, which was acting as a breeding ground for Anopheles quadrimaculatus mosquitoes. Control of mosquitoes helps to prevent or reduce the incidence of malaria, as well as several other mosquito-borne diseases
