George Kimball Burgess (1874-1932), US physicist. Burgess was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then at the University of Paris. He joined the National Bureau of Standards in 1903, with a particular focus on high-temperature measurements and pyrometry. From 1923 until his death, he was director of the National Bureau of Standards. He was also (from 1911) editor of the Journal of the Washington Academy of Sciences.
