EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of a Kujaku Koi, an exquisite variety of ornamental carp. The vibrant orange hues and intricate patterns on its scales are truly enchanting. Known as "brocaded carp" in Japanese, these Koi are cherished for their decorative purposes in outdoor ponds and water gardens. The photograph was taken at the handpick pools located in the aquaculture breeding farm of Kibbutz Maagan Michael, Israel. This farm is dedicated to nurturing and preserving these magnificent creatures. It serves as a testament to the intersection between animal farming, agriculture, and industrial practices. Koi fish are not only visually stunning but also hold incredible longevity among vertebrates, with some individuals living over two centuries! They belong to various categories based on their coloration, patterns, and scales. Among them, the Gosanke category stands out as one of the most popular varieties comprising Kohaku (white with red markings), Taisho Sanshoku (white with red and black markings), and Showa Sanshoku (black with white and red markings). This remarkable image captures both the gracefulness of this adult Kujaku Koi swimming effortlessly through tranquil waters while highlighting its significance within the aquaculture industry. Photographed by PhotoStock-Israel from Science Photo Library, this print offers a glimpse into nature's artistic wonders without any commercial connotations attached.
