Aries, the Ram, being the first of the twelve constellations assigned an astrological sign of the Zodiac (21 March to 19 April). One of twelve inlaid marble panels decorating Bianchinis Meridian Line in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, Rome (1702). They are positioned either side of the line at intervals of 30 degrees longitude and are the work of Francesco Tedeschi, who based them on the drawings of Jacobo de Gehn that were published in Bayers Uranometria (1603), the celestial atlas which introduced the modern method of naming stars

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of Aries, the Ram, which holds a significant place as the first constellation in the astrological signs of the Zodiac. The image is part of an extraordinary collection adorning Bianchinis Meridian Line within Rome's Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Crafted by Francesco Tedeschi and inspired by Jacobo de Gehn's illustrations published in Bayers Uranometria, these twelve marble panels represent each zodiac sign at 30-degree intervals along the meridian line. The celestial atlas introduced a groundbreaking method for naming stars and revolutionized our understanding of astronomy. The Aries panel stands out with its stellar depiction, capturing both mythology and astronomical precision. Symbolizing courage, determination, and leadership qualities associated with this fire sign, it serves as a reminder of humanity's fascination with astrology throughout history. As we gaze upon this mesmerizing artwork, we are transported to a realm where ancient myths intertwine with scientific exploration. It invites us to ponder our connection to the heavens above while appreciating the skillful cartography that brought these constellations to life on stone.
