Bulletproof glass

Bulletproof glass. Technicians testing a pane of Sentry-Glas Plus bulletproof glass against axe blows delivered by a robot arm. The glass must be able to withstand 70 blows, each equivalent to the full force of a strike from a fully-grown man. The pane consists of a layer of plastic sandwiched between glass layers. The glass is 100 times more rigid than previous types of bulletproof glass. Such glass, which is used in military vehicles, armoured limousines, banks and museums, is also tested using bullets and by dropping large steel balls onto it. Photographed in the Gun Testing Facility of the State of Baden- Wuttemberg in Ulm, Germany

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment of intense testing at the Gun Testing Facility in Ulm, Germany. In this image, technicians are subjecting a pane of Sentry-Glas Plus bulletproof glass to a series of axe blows delivered by a powerful robot arm. The resilience and strength of this remarkable glass is put to the ultimate test as it must withstand 70 blows, each equivalent to the force exerted by a fully-grown man. Comprising layers of plastic sandwiched between sheets of glass, this groundbreaking technology represents a significant advancement in bulletproof glass manufacturing. With its rigidity surpassing previous iterations by an astonishing factor of 100, it has become indispensable for military vehicles, armored limousines, banks, and museums worldwide. The meticulous research conducted here not only evaluates the impact resistance against axes but also includes tests involving bullets and heavy steel balls dropped onto the glass surface. These rigorous examinations ensure that no weaknesses or cracks compromise its protective capabilities. As we delve into this mesmerizing scene captured by Science Photo Library's lens, we witness scientists and researchers pushing boundaries in engineering innovation. Their relentless pursuit towards developing new materials technology guarantees enhanced safety measures for those who rely on bulletproof glass in high-risk environments.
