Tableau 38 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wieds Travels in the interior of North America. A Gros Ventres or Atsina Indian encampment along the banks of the Missouri River. Kneelboat with Maximilian, Bodmer and crew stopped opposite the encampment of the Atsina Indians. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels. These illustrations include 81 plates of aquatints.
