Painted by Francesco Francia in the late 15th to early 16th century, this artwork showcases his exceptional talent and devotion to religious themes. He founded both the Franciscan order and the Poor Clares, two orders committed to assisting the poor and sick. In this painting, St Francis is depicted kneeling in prayer within a cave-like setting. The artist skillfully portrays him wearing traditional monastic clothing while experiencing an ecstatic connection with God.
