EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a significant moment in the history of Lanlivery Church, Lostwithiel, Cornwall. Taken in November 1981, it showcases the dedication ceremony of their brand new altar. The image features four distinguished individuals who played crucial roles during this auspicious event. From left to right, we see Tim Turner, one of the churchwardens responsible for overseeing the project's execution. Standing beside him is Rev. Humphrey Yorke, the esteemed Vicar of Lanlivery and Luxulyan at that time. Next to them stands Rt Rev. Michael Fisher, Bishop of St Germans; his presence symbolizing divine approval and blessing upon this sacred space. The bishop's chaplain can also be seen in clerical attire standing alongside these key figures. Together with Howard Roberts, another devoted churchwarden whose contributions were instrumental in making this vision a reality. The composition beautifully highlights not only the personalities involved but also provides glimpses into some remarkable elements within Lanlivery Church itself. The stained glass windows create an ethereal backdrop while drawing attention to the exquisite craftsmanship displayed throughout its architecture. In particular, our eyes are drawn towards the magnificent granite altar adorned with intricate carvings—a testament to Cornish artistry and devotion to faith. Photographed by Jonathan Barker with great skill and sensitivity, this print serves as a poignant reminder of a momentous occasion that forever transformed Lanlivery Church into a place where spirituality meets architectural splendor.
