"Bishop's Mitre: A Symbol of Divine Authority and Spiritual Significance" The bishop's mitre, a distinctive headdress worn by bishops in the Catholic Church, holds great historical and religious significance. Throughout centuries, it has been depicted in various artworks, serving as a powerful symbol of spiritual authority and devotion. One such portrayal is seen in the painting "Virgin and Child with Saint Liborius and Carlo Borromeo" from 1693-95. This masterpiece showcases the mitre adorned by saints, emphasizing their close connection to divinity. In November 1981, during the dedication of a new altar at Lanlivery in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, the bishop's mitre took center stage once again. Bernardo Strozzi immortalized Bishop Gerardo Sagredo through portraiture in 1633. In this work, Sagredo wears an ornate mitre that signifies both his elevated position within society as well as his unwavering faithfulness to God’s calling.
