This front cover design for the October 1898 issue of Jugend magazine transports us back to the 1890s with its evocative imagery. The young boy, dressed in a cap and holding a feather, stands in silhouette against the backdrop of a classical building. His sheepdog, ears perked up, looks intently at the flock of sheep huddled together for protection. The serene scene is disrupted by an unexpected turn of events: a flash of lightning illuminates the night sky, its electric tendrils spelling out the name of the magazine in bold, striking letters. The storm rages on, rain pelting down on the steps of the building, its pillars and columns standing tall amidst the chaos. The contrast between the tranquil pastoral scene and the menacing storm creates a sense of tension and excitement.
