EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a chilling moment in history - the production of a napalm bomb at Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Commerce City, Colorado in 1957. The image showcases the grim reality of warfare and the devastating impact of this incendiary weapon. Napalm, a highly flammable liquid known for its ability to stick to skin and cause severe burns, was created by mixing gasoline with a gelling component. This deadly concoction was used as an effective tool during conflicts throughout the 20th century. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal, originally constructed during World War II, served as a hub for chemical weapons production until its closure in 1992. In this photograph taken by a Denver Post photographer on August 2nd, 1957, we witness workers meticulously constructing these lethal bombs on a production line. The image not only highlights the technological advancements made in warfare but also sheds light on the individuals involved - engineers and manufacturers who played integral roles in creating such destructive weaponry.
