EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the awe-inspiring sight of a MiG-31 fighter jet soaring into the sky just moments after take-off. Developed by the renowned Mikoyan-Guryevich design bureau, this formidable interceptor aircraft is an evolution of its predecessor, the MiG-25 Foxbat. With its two powerful Soloviev D30 afterburning turbofan engines, it possesses extraordinary speed capabilities, capable of reaching Mach 2.83 (3000 km/h) and attaining a ceiling height of 20,600 meters. Armed with both a 23mm cannon and eight hardpoints for missiles and fuel tanks, the MiG-31 exemplifies Russian engineering excellence in combat aircraft. Its first flight took place in 1975 before entering service in 1981, with approximately 400 units produced to date. Currently operated by both the Russian and Kazakhstan Air Forces, this twin-engine marvel stands as a symbol of aerial superiority. The photograph was taken in 2007 and showcases not only the sleek silhouette of this remarkable warplane but also highlights its distinctive tail design. The image serves as a testament to Russia's enduring commitment to aerospace defense technology throughout the twentieth century. Presented by RIA NOVOSTI/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY from their extensive collection, this stunning print offers aviation enthusiasts an opportunity to appreciate one of history's most iconic fighters – capturing both power and grace within a single frame.
