EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the National Railway Museum takes us back in time to Bishops Stortford station in 1911. The image captures a picturesque winter scene, with a blanket of snow covering the ground. As we gaze upon the photograph, our eyes are drawn to the magnificent steam locomotive that stands proudly on one of the platforms. Looking towards the south, we can see the up island platforms on our left and further along, at the up end of the down platform. The station building on its southern side peeks out beyond a canopy, adding an architectural charm to this historic railway hub. Our attention is also caught by an elevated ground signal near the station name board, reminding us of how crucial these signals were for ensuring safe journeys. The sepia tones add a nostalgic touch to this remarkable piece of history captured by Imagination Works. It transports us back to an era when trains were not just modes of transport but symbols of progress and adventure. As we admire this snapshot frozen in time, it's impossible not to feel a sense of awe and appreciation for those who built and operated these railways that connected communities across vast distances. This print serves as both a reminder and tribute to their ingenuity and dedication
