The festival holds great significance as it is a time when Chinese people pay homage to their ancestors and deceased family members. To make offerings, they present fake banknotes and gold ingots, symbolizing wealth and prosperity in the afterlife. However, due to safety regulations prohibiting burning within most cemeteries, these offerings find solace in the gutter just outside.
