This image of Planet Earth, as depicted by the medieval philosopher and theologian Cosmas Indicopleustes in the 6th century, offers a unique and intriguing perspective of our world and the cosmos beyond. In Cosmas' vision, the heavens were enclosed by solid walls, with a transparent firmament separating the terrestrial realm from the celestial one. Above the firmament, there was a vast reservoir of waters, and above that, the Empyrean vault, the dwelling place of God.
