This handcoloured lithograph showcases four exotic moth species: the Tasar Silkmoth (Antheraea mylitta, formerly known as Saturnia mylitta), the Specious Tiger Moth (Asota speciosa, formerly known as Noctua speciosa), and the Hypocrita Pylotis (Callimorpha pylotis). The image is taken from John O. Westwood's new edition of Dru Drury's Illustrations of Exotic Entomology, published by Bohn in London in 1837. The Tasar Silkmoth, with its striking orange and black wings, is a well-known species of the Saturniidae family. It is native to India and is known for producing raw silk, which is used in the production of Tasar silk. The Specious Tiger Moth, with its vibrant orange and black wings adorned with white spots, is a member of the Arctiidae family. Its scientific name was previously listed as Noctua speciosa, but it has since been reclassified as Asota speciosa.
