EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite design painted wall decoration of Palazzo Massimo in Aracoeli, Rome. Created by the talented Italian artist Basilio Briccio in 1683, this masterpiece is a testament to his skill and creativity. Using pen, ink, green and gray washes, as well as highlighted white gouache, Briccio has brought life to this stunning artwork. The intricate details and meticulous brushwork are evident in every stroke, capturing the viewer's attention. Measuring at an impressive 8 5/8 x 16 5/8 inches (219 x 422 cm), this piece commands attention with its grandeur. It is no wonder that Briccio was registered as a painter in the prestigious Roman Accademia di San Luca. Not only was he an accomplished painter but also an active architect who worked alongside his sister Plautilla - one of Italy's first female architects. Their collaboration resulted in some of the most remarkable architectural wonders seen throughout Italy. This print from Artokoloro allows us to appreciate not only Briccio's artistic talent but also his contribution to Italian architecture during this period. It serves as a reminder of the rich history and cultural heritage that can be found within Palazzo Massimo and other architectural marvels scattered across Rome.
