Painting on wooden board, in the naive style of seaman's craft or paintings on the inside lid of seamen's chests, with simple hand-crafted wooden frame.
The painting shows a starboard profile of the Great Britain under sail after the conversion to a fully-rigged ship. No funnel is visible which indicates that the image represents the ship after the refit to a sailing vessel in 1882. It operated as a sailing vessel from 1882 - 86, carrying cargo between the UK (coal from South Wales) to Panama and San Francisco (grain back to the UK).
