Paul Tissandiers balloon license, issued by the Aero-Club de France on 7 January 1904. French aeronaut Paul Tissandier (1881-1945), the son and nephew of aeronaut brothers Gaston and Albert Tissandier, would go on to pilot airships and aeroplanes. The Aero-Club de France (founded 1898) became a founder member of the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI) in 1905. Shown here are the first hot-air balloon (Montgolfier brothers, top left) and the first hydrogen balloon (top right), both from 1783. The signatures are of the Aero-Clubs President, the Marquis Jules-Albert de Dion (lower left), and Secretary-General, Georges Besancon (lower right)

This print showcases Paul Tissandier's balloon license, issued by the Aero-Club de France in 1904. Paul Tissandier, a French aeronaut and the son and nephew of renowned aeronaut brothers Gaston and Albert Tissandier, would later become an accomplished pilot of airships and aeroplanes. The Aero-Club de France, founded in 1898, played a crucial role in the development of aviation and became one of the founding members of the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI) in 1905. The print also features historical illustrations of two significant balloons from 1783: the first hot-air balloon created by the Montgolfier brothers on the top left corner, and the first hydrogen balloon on the top right corner. The signatures at the bottom left belong to Marquis Jules-Albert de Dion, President of Aero-Club de France at that time, while Georges Besancon's signature can be found at bottom right as Secretary-General. This monochrome artwork provides us with a glimpse into early aviation history.
