EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Aristotle, a renowned Athenian philosopher and logician who left an indelible mark on the world. Born in Macedon in 384 BC, he embarked on a journey of intellectual enlightenment under the tutelage of Plato in Athens. However, it was his pivotal role as a tutor to none other than Alexander The Great that solidified his place in history. Aristotle's thirst for knowledge knew no bounds, and he utilized his garden as a public teaching space where he shared his profound wisdom with eager minds. His influence extended far beyond philosophy; he delved into diverse fields such as logic, astronomy, zoology, embryology, and physics. A true polymath ahead of his time. While some aspects of Aristotle's teachings may have become outdated over centuries passed since this 14th-century fresco was created, there is no denying that he laid the foundation for logical reasoning and critical thinking. Today, we recognize him as one of the founding fathers of logic. In this image from Science Photo Library's collection, we witness Aristotle depicted against a backdrop reminiscent of ancient Greece – nature itself. With fauna surrounding him and hints at zoological taxonomy within reach, it serves as a visual reminder not only of his scientific contributions but also his deep connection to the natural world. As we admire this remarkable print capturing Aristotle's legacy through artistry and historical significance intertwined with science’s evolution throughout time - let us celebrate this extraordinary mind whose ideas continue to shape our understanding
