EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Canadair F-86E Sabre 52-2860, a proud serviceman of the Air National Guard (ANG) with an intriguing history. The Sabre, a Canadair F-86E-6-CAN variant, was initially transferred from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) to the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1952 as Mk.19321. Its first assignment was with the Michigan ANG's 107th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. Subsequently, the Sabre saw service with the New Jersey ANG's 119th and 141st Fighter Interceptor Squadrons. In 1958, it was reassigned to the North Carolina ANG's 156th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. After a period of service, the Sabre was put into storage at the Air Material Area Research and Development Center (AMARC) bone yard in 1958. Despite being in storage, the Sabre's story did not end there. It was salvaged, a testament to its enduring value and the dedication of those who preserved it. This photograph, taken circa 1953, captures the Sabre in its prime, a symbol of the courage and commitment of the Air National Guard pilots who flew it.
