Sculpture of Otto von Bismarck, 19th century Prussian statesman, 1937. Artist: Wide World Photos

Sculpture of Otto von Bismarck, 19th century Prussian statesman, 1937. Otto Edward Leopold, Count von Bismarck (1815-1898) was Chancellor of Prussia and architect of modern Germany. His ambition was to unify the various independent German states into a single nation under Prussian leadership. The catalyst to bringing this about was the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, when the other German states fought alongside the Prussians. France was defeated, and in 1871, the German Empire was established, with Bismarck as Chancellor. A print from The Story of Seventy Momentous Years, the Life and Times of King George V, 1865-1936, editor Harold Wheeler, Odhams Press Ltd, London, 1937

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable sculpture of Otto von Bismarck, a prominent figure in 19th century Prussian politics. Crafted by the talented artist from Wide World Photos, this sculpture beautifully captures the essence of Bismarck's commanding presence. Otto Edward Leopold, Count von Bismarck, was not only Chancellor of Prussia but also the mastermind behind modern Germany. His unwavering ambition was to unite the independent German states under Prussian leadership. This vision became a reality during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 when other German states joined forces with Prussia and emerged victorious over France. In 1871, as a result of this triumph, the German Empire was established with Bismarck at its helm as Chancellor. The significance of his role in shaping Germany cannot be overstated; he laid down strong foundations that would shape its destiny for years to come. The striking military uniform worn by Bismarck in this sculpture is symbolic of his dedication to serving his country and leading it towards greatness. With an intense gaze and resolute expression on his face, he exudes strength and determination - qualities that defined him throughout his political career. As we admire this magnificent artwork captured in monochrome beauty, we are reminded of Otto von Bismarck's immense contribution to German history and how he forever altered the course of a nation.
