Heart-lung anatomy. Axial section through the chest at the level of the fifth thoracic vertebra (T5). The front of the body is at top. The lungs are at right and left, either side of the heart (centre). The major branches of the aorta are also shown, along with the backbone and the ribs. This anatomical artwork is plate 207 from volume 4 of Manuel d anatomie descriptive du corps humain (1825). This 5-volume anatomy atlas was produced by French physician and surgeon Jules Germain Cloquet (1790-1883). The illustrations were by Haincelin. Volume 4 illustrated the anatomy of the circulatory and respiratory systems
