The patient was suffering from extensive peripheral arterial disease lower down his left leg (at right here), but these lesions are not visible in this image. Abdominal angiography is an X-ray technique in which the arteries are outlined by radio-opaque contrast medium, introduced through a catheter inserted via the femoral artery.
