Aquarius, the Water Bearer, being the eleventh of the twelve constellations

Aquarius, the Water Bearer, being the eleventh of the twelve constellations assigned an astrological sign of the Zodiac (22 June to 22 July). One of twelve inlaid marble panels decorating Bianchinis Meridian Line in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, Rome (1702). They are positioned either side of the line at intervals of 30 degrees longitude and are the work of Francesco Tedeschi, who based them on the drawings of Jacobo de Gehn that were published in Bayers Uranometria (1603), the celestial atlas which introduced the modern method of naming stars

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of Aquarius, one of the twelve constellations that make up the astrological signs of the Zodiac. The image captures an inlaid marble panel found within the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome, specifically part of Bianchinis Meridian Line dating back to 1702. Positioned on either side of the line at intervals representing 30 degrees longitude, these panels were meticulously crafted by Francesco Tedeschi. Inspired by Jacobo de Gehn's drawings published in Bayers Uranometria, a renowned celestial atlas from 1603, Tedeschi brought to life this stellar masterpiece. Aquarius is often associated with mythology, astronomy, and astrology due to its prominence as a constellation. Its depiction as "the Water Bearer" symbolizes its connection to water and its vital role in sustaining life. The inclusion of Aquarius among these magnificent marble panels adds a touch of celestial wonder to this historic basilica. As visitors gaze upon this artwork, they are transported into a realm where mythological tales intertwine with scientific exploration. This print serves as a testament to human fascination with the stars and heavens above. It invites us to ponder our place within the vast cosmos while appreciating both ancient cartography techniques and modern astronomical advancements.
