The Canberra, a versatile jet-powered medium bomber, was developed by English Electric Aviation Company and first flew in 1950. By 1953, the Canberra had already proven its worth in various roles, including maritime patrol, reconnaissance, and even as a passenger transport. The PR.3 variant, specifically designed for photo-reconnaissance missions, was a significant improvement over its predecessors. Equipped with advanced cameras and sophisticated imaging systems, the PR.3 was able to capture high-resolution images from high altitudes. The Canberra's sleek, aerodynamic design and powerful engines made it an impressive sight at the 1953 Farnborough SBAC Show.
