Borjomi: A Hidden Gem of the Caucasus Mountains - Circa 1905 Nestled in the heart of the southern region of Samskhe-Javakheti in Georgia lies Borjomi, an internationally renowned hydrothermal health spa resort. Established since the 15th century, Borjomi's reputation for its geothermal spring mineral water resources has only grown stronger over the centuries. The serene landscape of Borjomi, surrounded by the majestic Caucasus Mountains, has long been recognized for its curative properties. The waters of Borjomi were first mentioned in historical records as early as the 15th century, but it was the daughter of Evgeny Golovin, the Russian Czar's viceroy in the Caucasus, who brought wider notoriety to the resort. After being cured there, the springs were named in her honor - the Yekaterinsky spring and the Yevgeniyevsky springs. In this photograph taken circa 1905, we see the tranquil pavilion of the Borjomi spa resort, where visitors from all corners of the world came to seek the healing properties of the mineral waters. The pavilion, adorned with intricate details and set against the backdrop of the lush forest, exudes an aura of relaxation and rejuvenation. Borjomi's mineral waters, rich in carbon dioxide and various minerals, were believed to have numerous health benefits, including the treatment of digestive disorders, skin conditions, and even arthritis. The therapeutic properties of the waters, combined with the picturesque setting, made Borjomi a popular destination for those seeking wellbeing and respite from their daily lives. As we gaze upon this image, we are transported back in time to an era of simplicity and relaxation, where the natural wonders of the world were celebrated for their healing properties. Borjomi remains a testament to the power of nature and the enduring allure of the Caucasus Mountains.
