This particular print is believed to originate from a 17th-century pirate edition or atlas of illustrations, featuring captions in multiple languages, including Latin, Greek, French, Italian, German, and English manuscript. Urtica dioica, the larger nettle plant, is depicted with its characteristic serrated leaves and hollow, square stems. The plant is known for its stinging hairs, which release histamine when touched, causing a painful rash. Despite this, nettle has a long history of medicinal use.
