EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the elegant and historic moment of the Marriage of Her Majesty Wilhelmina of the Netherlands (1880-1962) and Duke Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1876-1934) on the 7th of February, 1901, in The Hague. The royal wedding took place in the grand Nieuwe Kerk, with the young couple exuding an air of regal sophistication and love. Wilhelmina, the future Queen of the Netherlands, wore a stunning bridal gown adorned with intricate lace and beadwork, complemented by a delicate veil and a magnificent diamond diadem. Her groom, Duke Henry, donned the full uniform of a Mecklenburg-Schwerin officer, complete with a tall, plumed hat and a sash emblazoned with the family crest. The wedding was an official state occasion, attended by numerous dignitaries and diplomats from around the world. The bride's mother, Queen Emma, looked on proudly as her daughter exchanged vows with the Duke, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Dutch monarchy. The wedding festivities continued for several days, with grand banquets, balls, and processions through the streets of The Hague.
