Born on February 19, 1473, in Torun, Poland, Copernicus is considered a pivotal figure in the scientific revolution due to his heliocentric model of the universe. His groundbreaking work, "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres), published in 1543, challenged the geocentric model that had dominated astronomical thought for over a thousand years.
