Amidst the harsh realities of war, the British Expeditionary Force found themselves stationed along the coast of Salonika, Greece, during the First World War. In this evocative photograph from circa 1916-1917, sunburnt soldiers huddle in the protective embrace of their trench lines, their rifles at the ready.
