On the fateful day of October 13, 1900, Colonel Brown, under heavy enemy fire, came to the aid of two of his wounded comrades - Sergeant Hersey and Lance-Corporal Trumpeter Leigh. With unwavering courage, Colonel Brown jumped off his horse, assisted the injured Sergeant Hersey onto his mount, and carried him for an impressive three-quarters of a mile to safety. After ensuring Sergeant Hersey's safety, he repeated the act with Lance-Corporal Trumpeter Leigh. This powerful image, taken in the 1910s, immortalizes the selfless heroism of Colonel Brown, who put his own life on the line to save his comrades.
