Alien planet HD 209458 b and its sun

Alien planet and its sun. Artwork of the planet HD 209458 b with its parent star (HD 209458), as seen from the surface of a moon. This planet was detected as it transited (passed in front of) its star, causing a dip in brightness of 1.7%, at the time predicted from orbital calculations. This was the first direct evidence of a planet orbiting another star when it was first observed in 1999. The presence of the planet was detected by observing the wobble its orbit had on the stars motion through space. HD 209458 B is about 200 times the mass of Earth, but orbits only 6.5 million kilometres from its star, where one orbit takes just 3.5 days. HD 209458 is a Sun-like star (yellow dwarf) that lies 153 light years from Earth, in the constellation Pegasus

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing landscape of an alien planet known as HD 209458 b and its radiant parent star, HD 209458. The artwork depicts a breathtaking view from the surface of one of HD 209458 b's moons, offering a unique perspective on this distant celestial body. Discovered in 1999, HD 209458 b made history as the first exoplanet ever detected directly orbiting another star. Its presence was unveiled through meticulous observations of its host star's wobble caused by the planet's gravitational pull. This groundbreaking discovery confirmed that planets exist beyond our solar system. HD 209458 b is an intriguing world with approximately 200 times Earth's mass. However, what truly sets it apart is its incredibly close proximity to its scorching-hot sun. Orbiting just over six million kilometers away from its parent star, this enigmatic planet completes a full revolution in a mere three and a half days. The yellow dwarf star itself, resembling our own Sun, resides within the constellation Pegasus and lies an astonishing distance of 153 light-years away from Earth. This awe-inspiring image serves as a testament to humanity's insatiable curiosity about the vastness of our universe and our ongoing quest to unravel its mysteries. Displayed with remarkable artistry and scientific precision, this illustration captures both the beauty and scientific significance of planetary exploration. It invites us to ponder upon worlds far beyond our reach while reminding us how much there still remains to discover in this vast cosmic tapestry we call home.
