Florence Nightingale background.
Picture shows the actual field ambulance used by Florence Nightingale during The Crimean War. The carriage has been offered to Derby, by Mr LH Shore Nightingale, a relative of Florence Nightingale. The carriage is springless and must have been very uncomfortable. The occupants were frequently flung out into the road, owing to the front wheel locking when a sharp urn was taken.
Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820 - 13 August 1910) was an English social reformer and statistician, and the founder of modern nursing.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the Crimean War, where we catch a glimpse of Florence Nightingale's remarkable field ambulance. Generously offered to Derby by Mr LH Shore Nightingale, a relative of the iconic nurse herself, this carriage holds significant historical value. As we examine the image closely, it becomes evident that comfort was not a priority during those challenging times. The springless design must have made for an incredibly uncomfortable ride, with occupants frequently being flung out onto the road due to the front wheel locking when making sharp turns. Florence Nightingale, born on May 12th, 1820 and departing from this world on August 13th, 1910, is hailed as an English social reformer and statistician who revolutionized modern nursing. Her pioneering efforts laid the foundation for contemporary healthcare practices and her unwavering dedication continues to inspire generations of medical professionals. This picture was issued on October 31st in 1923; however, its significance transcends time. It serves as a poignant reminder of Nightingale's immense contributions towards improving public health and her relentless pursuit of compassionate care. As we gaze upon this snapshot from history's memory lane prints collection by Mirrorpix, let us pay homage to Florence Nightingale's indomitable spirit while acknowledging her profound impact on medicine and society at large.
