In this photograph from 1929, the colossal R.101 airship lies peacefully on the ground at Cardington, Bedfordshire, England. The R.101 was a British rigid airship, measuring an impressive 223-metres in length, making it one of the largest of its kind at the time. To put this into perspective, the length of this engineering marvel is equivalent to nearly seven football fields.
