This print captures a momentous occasion in the history of Naval quarters. Taken in Gosport, Hampshire during the 1960s, it showcases a group of people including Royal Navy staff gathered for the grand opening ceremony of married quarters. The housing estate, consisting of an impressive 1000 12M Jespersen flats and houses, was meticulously constructed by Laings construction company's South London Region to accommodate Royal Navy families. This industrialized housing project aimed to provide comfortable homes for those serving their country. The significance of this event is further highlighted by the presence of distinguished guests. Admiral Sir Frank Hopkins, Commander-in-Chief of Portsmouth at that time, can be seen alongside two remarkable individuals - Royal Navy V. Cs J J Magennis and T W Gould. These brave heroes were honored with streets named after them on this very estate.
