The Emperor of Abyssinia with the Empress Mannen and members of their family have gone into exile with the Ethiopian colony in Jerusalem.
This colony is probably the largest group of Abyssinians abroad, having its own churches and institutions. Haile Selassie and his family have always been much interested in this outpost of their Empire. The Empress paid a visit in 1933, little dreaming that the Royal House would seek refuge in the Holy City from a foreign invader.
Photo shows, the Empress Menen attending a special ceremony on the roof of the Ethiopian Chapel, which is the oldest part of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre dating back to Queen St Helena. This picture was made when the Empress visited Jerussalem in 1933.
