EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the 1930s when a heartwarming tale unfolded. The image captures Mr H. E. Turk, the Dyers Companies Swan Master, arriving at Kingston with an injured swan in his motor car. This young swan had left its home on the Thames but unfortunately met with an accident near the railway at Mitcham in Surrey. Fortunately, fate intervened as Mr Turk came to its rescue and swiftly took it under his care. He brought the wounded bird to his old house in Kingston where he administered castor oil to aid its recovery. Determined to see this majestic creature return safely to its natural habitat, Mr Turk vowed to nurse it until it regained full health. The significance of these regal birds cannot be understated; they belong not only to the Crown but also hold importance for both the Dyers Company and Vintners Company. As such, every effort was made by Mr Turk and others involved in this noble cause. This photograph serves as a reminder of our responsibility towards nature's creatures and showcases humanity's compassion for even the most vulnerable among us. It is a testament to our ability as caretakers of this planet that we can come together across time and generations for their well-being
