Tychos Great Brass Globe
Tycho Brahes Great Brass Globe, one of the instruments at Tychos observatory at Uraniborg on the island of Hven, between Denmark and Sweden. The globe showed the positions of the stars and constellations with great accuracy. It was made of wood, covered with brass and carefully packed with parchment to be exactly spherical. It was left to weather for several seasons in order to ensure it would not change shape after calibration. The construction process took a total of 25 years. The illustration is from Tychos book Astronomiae Instauratae Mechanica, published in Wandesburgi in 1598
