TV cathode ray tube
TV cathode ray tube. Components of a cathode ray tube (CRT) display for a television (TV). These are the components that are behind a TV screen. At upper centre is the electron gun, surrounded by electronics. The electron gun produces a beam of electrons (also called a cathode ray because it is produced by heating of a cathode). This beam of electrons is directed through a set of magnetic coils (lower centre, yellow) towards the screen (not seen, off bottom). The magnetic field from the coils is varied to deflect the electron beam as required. The beam is moved across the screen, triggering the release of light from the phosphor materials on the inside of the screen. This produces the images seen on a TV screen

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate components of a TV cathode ray tube (CRT), revealing the inner workings behind every television screen. At the center, we find the electron gun, an electronic marvel that generates a beam of electrons through thermionic emission from its cathode. Surrounding it are various electronics responsible for controlling and manipulating this electron beam. The lower center features a set of magnetic coils, colored in vibrant yellow, which play a crucial role in directing the electron beam towards the unseen screen located at the bottom. By varying their magnetic fields, these coils skillfully deflect and move the beam across the screen's surface. As this dance between electrons and magnets unfolds behind-the-scenes, phosphor materials on the inside of the screen respond to each movement by releasing bursts of light. It is through this magical interplay that images come to life on our beloved TV screens. This mesmerizing snapshot not only highlights technological advancements but also serves as an educational tool for those interested in understanding electrical engineering principles and electromagnetism. With its blend of physics and engineering concepts, it offers a glimpse into how electricity can be harnessed to create visual wonders that entertain and enlighten us all.
