CPR first aid technique, artwork
CPR first aid technique. Artwork showing the 6th of 6 steps used in the first aid technique of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Here, after failing to detect the patients pulse, the first aid responder is carrying out chest compressions to massage and restart the heart. This is done by placing the heel of one hand on the lower half of the sternum (breastbone), with the other hand on top and the fingers interlocked and raised to avoid breaking the ribs (outlined). Chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation are used until the patient revives or further help arrives. For the full sequence, see C014/5610 to C014/5615
